They'll pay for it (literally) in the end. Maybe the luxury tax should be expanded, since it's only hurting one team.
The Yankees dealt away one of their top prospects for Boone. It didn't really have too much to do with money (this time).
I think the main problem lies in their bullpen. _________________ -Wedge231 chris@c-wod.com

I absolutely HATE George Steinbrener. I am semi-excited about this move to get boone by the yanks, only becuase he is on my fantasy baseball team and he will do better on the yanks. but besides that, i am apalled. i think that the fact that Steinbrener can say to his people "Okay guys, trade dedline is today. Go find me a hitter. I dont care who. Just do it." and they can get basically get whoever they want is rediculous. I think baseball needs to reform some rules or something to keep this from happening. _________________ ~THE MAYOR |

I am the biggest Yankee-hater and Steinbrenner-hater out there, and I complain everytime they do something that is completely unfair, but this is not one of those cases.
Not only did they have to trade away one of their best prospects just to get Boone, they had to trade away their All-Star third baseman to make room for Boone. And the infield was not the place where the Yankees needed the most help. They were unable to address their needs in the outfield. I have no complaints about this trade. _________________ Justin Lieber |

themayor,
I feel that every club in baseball has the prospects and resources to say "Get a hitter, I don't care who." What they don't have is the owner to say it. Love him or hate him, if he owned the Royals - they'd rock. He's a good sports owner.
I feel that after we dealt Mondesi, we lacking on offense from the right side of the plate. I mean, Karim Garcia is his replacement. That's a talent downgrade. Boone is a big improvement over Ventura. I think Claussen is a risky guy after that Tommy John surgery. If we can get a Boone for him, I don't mind it.
Justin,
It sounds like the only reason you have no complaints is because you think the Yankees got the bad end of the deal and/or failed to meet their objectives. Not too fair. _________________ Patrick O'Keefe - SportsForums.net Administrator

Patrick,
yes they were losing on the right side of the plate but mondesi was in a slump when they traded him. they werent losing offense as much as defense. i mean lets face it. mondesi had a great first 30 games or so but since then he's been in an offensive slump. the thing they lost most was defense. he was a really good defensive player and they didnt have any real good defensive outfielders to take his place (they might have found it in David Delucci if you watched his debut as a Yankee last night). when they delt away their pitcher for boone, i thought that they were going for offense because boone is having a much better offensive season than ventura. however, i thought that they would keep ventura on the bench and bring him in for defensive purposes. then they went and traded him off to the dodgers. i think that this trade was not smart because it is proven that defense and pitching is more important to a world series run than offense, and ventura is a better defensive player than boone. also, boone is being traded from National League to American League, so he will have to adjust to a whole new slew of pitchers. i dont expect him to be a huge offensive presence for the yankees right away. i guess we'll just have to wait and see what boone does. _________________ ~THE MAYOR |

It was a fair deal. Still, they really need a RF or a reliever.
Who cares about hitting? They have Giambi, Soriano, Matsui, etc. I wish the Mets had someone good for 100+ RBIs.
Boone is a lot faster than Ventura, too. I don't think that has been mentioned. _________________ -Wedge231 chris@c-wod.com
