I would say that as far as overall physical conditioning goes, Wrestling requires far more.

I wrestled in high school and I have played competitive basketball since then. I wouldnt say that you need to be strong for either sport. Obviously being strong helps for wrestling, but if your not in good condition then forget it. Wrestling for a 6 minute match is 30 times harder then running back and forth on the court. So many times I came off the mat after a match and threw up because of how exhausted I was. That doesn't happen when I play basketball.

I could see it both ways. In wrestling you need strong upper arm strength, strong abdominal muscles and strong upper leg strength. However, a lot of wrestling depends on using leverage to get the upper hand so that means muscles down your arms, down your legs and certain back muscles don't have to be a focus (although it certainly doesn't hurt). In basketball, however, those back muscles, lower leg muscles, and arm muscles closer to your wrists play a much larger role on ball control, getting rebounds, aiming shots, making quick directional changes, etc. I also think stamina would be more important in basketball. In wrestling you need to be in good enough cardio shape to last the match, but its sort of a sprint-style sport in that you just throw everything down to overpower your opponent. In basketball you have to be able to spend 48 minutes or close to it out there on the court. That means you have to be able to extend that strength over a longer period of time, even if the level of strength required isn't as great. You may feel more exhausted from wrestling because you leave everything behind all at once, but your overall stamina is put to a higher test on the court. So, in short, its two different kinds of strength. A strong wrestler may be a weak baller and vice versa.
