I will agree that the Yanks have proven that, for the most part. They do have a solid core that stays year after year. Though I still feel that they do add valuable players to their roster every year which put them over the top.

I'll agree that that is somewhat true. We attack every free agent period as an opportunity to better the team. Last year, we got Mussina. Who did we get the year before that? or before that? My memory is a tad short or maybe we didn't sign anyone "big."

I really believe the last big deal we made before Mussina was for Tino in 96 and at that time, it didn't look like a great deal! Of course, now it was a great deal.

Yeah usually you don't sign anyone "big" but a solid player that would be welcome on most teams. Not sure when you acquired Justice but he is a solid player. The one that sticks in my mind, besides Sterling, is Jim Leyritz a few years ago, he was a hero in San Diego and then ended up with the Yanks granted he was originally from there.

And yep, Tino proved to be a good deal, I wonder where he will be next year haha.

Just look at your pitching staff. Who needs a home run hitter when you have bought THAT rotation???

Not sure what you mean.

We traded Wells (Coming off career year at time), Homer Bush and Lyoyd for Clemens. Pettitte and El Duq have always been Yankees. But, yeah, we got Mussina. But hey, the Rockies got Hampton.

Your missing my point. I dont care how you got them, the fact is, you can afford to pay them year after year, and no other team can. BASEBALL NEEDS A SALARY CAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i do agree with rick, it doesnt matter how you got them, you can still afford them...

...however someone on tv made a good point, it wouldnt be fair to suddenly place a cap and then the team fall apart. what i think would be nice in addition to the cap, would be that every team would be allowed one or two players that have been with the team for, say, 3+ years, not count against the cap. that would help level the field without punishing the big guns as much.

Well, you are missing my point! Stop the garbage about how we sign FAs! Period. Hopefully we go after some this year (Bonds mainly!) and then you can spout off, but in the past years and years, we've only signed Mussina, while the Red Sox have signed Manny and the Rangers A-Rod.

Defska,

That sounds reasonable, although it won't please the pure complainers.
