Again, I just don't see that as being very reasonable. I mean, if that's the standard, you have to automatically lose respect for any championship team in the history of the game. Give every championship team 36 years and I'm sure that someone outside of that team's fan base can find something like that, at least once, assuming you can't already, with every team. These are just human beings that will have strong opinions, just like you and me. They aren't any different.
They don't have any reason to thank the Patriots. What they did is historical and has never been done. The Patriots, and every other player playing today, should be thanking them and the players of that era that didn't get paid much, that sacrificed their bodies more so, helping to foster the popularity of a game where now even the worst players can play a few years and be set for life. It wasn't like that back then. Many people who played then are struggling now, in pain.
We hear about the '72 Dolphins no matter what happens, every single year. They've said the bottle popping stuff is overdone and that makes sense - in that, they aren't actually sitting around the TV with champagne in hand. When the team loses and they remain the only undefeated team, maybe they have a little toast. Who cares? There's nothing wrong with that. They accomplished something, as a team, that has never been done. Let them have their fun. They don't call the losing team up and laugh over the phone or anything like that. If they did, I'd be the first to criticize them.
Also, I haven't heard any insults. If any of them said the Patriots championships should be questioned or their season should be questioned, due to the spying, that's not an insult. The Patriots were caught spying, were caught violating the commissioner's order. I'm not saying that's a big deal or small deal, but it's there and it's open for comment. What Mr. Shula said at the time was fair and he's entitled to his opinion, even if we disagree with it. As far as I know, Mercury Morris didn't say anything bad about the Patriots players. I watched the rap and I didn't see him say that Brady ate babies or anything like that. What I took away from it is that the Patriots shouldn't be mentioned in the same class as the '72 Dolphins until they've actually done it themselves. That's not an insult - that's his opinion. I don't see anything wrong with it, either. If the Patriots finish the regular season undefeated and win the Super Bowl, then they can be mentioned along with the 72' Dolphins. Until then... I think any player from that team has the right to that opinion. Are you saying that Randy Moss hasn't said or done anything just as bad, if not worse?
And, I don't think what those '72 Dolphins have said, for the most part, about the current Dolphins team is unfair. I mean, a lot of people have those opinions. They aren't current players on the team under this coach, they aren't on the Dolphins staff. They don't cease being humans because they played for the Dolphins 30 years ago. They don't have to mince their words. You don't think the Dolphins stunk this year? I do. Plenty of fans think Cameron should be fired (I don't). They are just people. Though some of it annoys me, at the end of the day, I have my opinion and they have theirs ... and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I don't lose respect for what they've accomplished, though. Ty Cobb did things much, much, much worse than any of this stuff can even be considered to be in line with and, although I may not like him as a person, I certainly respect what he did on the field. _________________ Patrick O'Keefe - SportsForums.net Administrator

The regular season is only half of what the Patriots have to accomplish to compare with the '72 Dolphins. If they finish out undefeated, which seems probable now, they still have to run the table in the playoffs, and take home the Super Bowl victory.
If they lose in the playoffs, then I don't think it will be the same. They need to run that table. _________________ www.chiefswarpath.com |

All I know is that the Dolphins won and didn't completely disgrace the 72 Dolphins, They did that themselves, in the year that they lose their throne. _________________ Colts repeat
