a new season has started and there are a lot of teams with different looks than last season. so who will win the cup? i have to say the ducks, although they're no longer the mighty ducks they definately have the best defense in the nhl with addition of chris pronger...if their offense can produce like they did last season and giguerre can stay healthy, the ducks will be lifting lord stanley's cup at the end of the season _________________ New Orleans Saints

| I early pick is Calgary. Kipper showed the other night what he can do, and I know the Flames will do some trades during the season... so my early vote goes to them. They have a solid team and great goaltending. |

good point, any team with a goalie like kip and a winger like iginla will always have a good shot, they almost won the cup a couple years ago and underachieved last year _________________ New Orleans Saints

| I'm pulling for the Rangers and I thought they'd have a shot, but their defense is so lame right now. In that one game against Pittsburgh, Lundvquist allowed I think 6 goals on 22 shots or something like that. |

It's a bit early to be asking that question, but as everyone else, I have my favorites. Lets go through the top teams.
Detroit is no longer the powerhouse team they once were and theya re now lacking the leadership Shanahan and Yzerman brought to the team.
The dallas stars have had a strong start thusfar but are as always gonna be weak in the playoffs, Turco as always will let the dallas faithful down.
At the beginning of the season many Anaylists were talking about Nashville, but boy have they shown weaknesses thusfar. I belive nashville doesnt have the tools to make it past the first round.
The atlanta thrashers and minnesota wild have started this season will, behind the great goaltending of lehtonen and fernandez respectively. However, neither one of these goalies know the pressure of the playoffs and thus will have much trouble.
As much as I hate to say it, no canadian team will make it to the finals this year. The 2 best teams heading into the season, Ottawa and Calgary, have shown quite a downfall from last year. With the loss of havlat, the best player in the league right now, the senators dont stand a chance. As for Calgary, if Kiprusoff doesnt start stealing games like last year they might find it hard to even make the playoffs.
Now for the contenders:
In the east we have the devils and the sabres. With martin broduer on their team, how could you count them off?, he has for years and will for the next few years steal games and always pose a threat for the apposing teams. He will be looking for remorse after his sad display in the playoffs last year. The sabres are quite a well rounded team and do not rely on any one player to cary the load, furthermore, they have not 1 but 2 great goaltenders in Miller and Biron.
In the west we have two california teams with the Ducks and the Sharks. both teams pose a great threat in net with Giguere and Bryzgalov on one side and Toskala and Nabokov on the otherside. What better way to fight for a starting spot, with both goalies on either teams shutting the door. However, both teams have different strategies infront of the goaltender. The ducks play a defensive style hockey with two of the best defenceman in the world in Pronger and Niedermeyer. The sharks pose a threat on offense with such potent players as Thornton, Marleau, Cheechoo and younster Mihalek.
My Prediction:
The Buffalo Sabres will go against the San Jose Sharks in the stanley cup finals. This game will possibly go 7 games as the last two finals, and the Champion will be the Buffal Sabres. _________________ Coom Jiggy |

| I think the Sabres will if everyone is healthy. They fell one game short of making it last year with a lot of injuries, and they don't have just one line to worry about either - every player on the team does their part. |

The Devils, with Martin Brodeur, is going to win it all. As they have already done three times since 1995. _________________ Links: (1st-soccer highlights, 2nd-live football)
