| Being around players like Jagr and Lemieux might have been one reason. |

right now the rangers, imo, need a major rebuild, trade those heartless players to unsuspecting teams....but who wants them ? they make way too much money, how much does holik make ? 8M ?
Don't count on Lindros, he's been a cry-baby ever since he entered the league, and even before, think he should have stayed with Quebec, look at the avs now....
Bure ? another one who doesn't care.
Kasparaitis ? a slow, slow player.
Peter Nedvd is worse today than he was yesterday but better than he will be tomorrow....
Mike Dunham is a good goalie, he's considered one of the best american goalies, but he played in Nashville, where hockey is the 20th most popular sport, now he's in NY, almost as bad as in Mtl
The rangers just won't win with those players, and Sather is responsible for this, each time he loses a game, that's one more good reason to fire him at the end of the season.
right now they have Jamie Lundmark as a young player but he can't just start to score like that, he needs time and he needs veterans who will show him what it takes to win, plus, if I'm not mistaken, they gave up on Pavel Brendl way too early.
I do not believe the solution is within the team, this farce has been going on for a couple of years now, I think it's time to change strategies here. |

Yeah, I'm upset Brendl is now on the rival Flyers.
I heard Mike Keenan might come back as coach and GM. _________________ -Wedge231 chris@c-wod.com

I haven't heard that.
His contract with Florida is coming to an end at the end of the season ?
I wouldn't be surprised if Sather was shown the door at the end of the season, although I'm sure he'll find another team pretty quickly, but I haven't heard about Keenan.
Trottier was a bad choice in the first place imo, just like Granato was for the avs. Look at Hartley with Atlanta ! I think they're 1 game above 500 since he's the head coach. NY should have gone for him, since they fired Trottier anyway.
The problem in NY is the same as in MTL, people want them to win, and they want them to win NOW. They won't let the team go into a rebuilding phase with young, promising players, they want young players to be playing with the team, as well as highly paid superstars. Yes you're gonna tell me the rangers can do that, as opposed to MTL, but they've proven you need more than money to win, look at the wings, look at the wild. But MTL has a pretty high payroll too, around 45M, when you look at mckay, audette, czerkawski, gilmour(the guy wants to play, he gives 100% each and every time, but he just cannot do it anymore), Brisebois (who's far from being a bad player, but he's not a 1st defenseman, and at 4M a year, the guy either needs to make 50 pts or finish with +20 or higher, which is clearly not the case right now), you can see it's easy to spend money without winning.
Therrien was fine, they fired him, now it's Julien, don'T know what he's worth yet, but it's pretty obvious the coach isn'T the problem, MTL needs to win 13 games til the end, 13 out of 17 I think, that would give them 88 pts, which would be on the edge, they won'T make the playoffs for the 4th year in the last 5, it's a shame for the winniest hockey franchise in history....over 10000 goals only at home, 24 stanley cups, plante, dryden, richard, beliveau, and on and on....I don't know....I don't know what I'd give to have a job like that : playing hockey each and everyday, and being paid ridiculous amounts of money for it. |

I read the rumor about Keenan this morning, I really don't know what to think of it though.
I think it's too late for NY, they're in a worse shape than MTL, so New Yorkers are gonna have to concentrate their cheers on the isles.
As for MTL...They'll have to concentrate their cheers on...the Puerto-Rico Expos. |
