Torii Hunter is now an Angel: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7477188

A great move for the Angels. Now, Vlad will have a legitimate presense to protect him in the batting order. What do you think?

Ya i agree this is a great move for the angels. They can also let Vlad just be the DH so he doesn't have to wear out his body!

I think this move can either signify one of two things: the first is that they are no longer in the Cabrera sweepstakes because they have a legitimate power threat to protect VLAD.

OR

It could mean that they are now more willing to part with Kendrick and let Aybar take over because Kendrick's numbers will be replaced by Hunter.

Nevertheless, the winter meeting this year will be extremely interesting

I think that they may try to move Gary Matthews, Jr for pitching or something of the like.

Angels have enough pitching with their recent addition of Jon Garland. Anywayz, it's gonna be impossible to move Matthews with his contract and his involvement with steroids.

So what do they do with him, then? DH him, and platoon him? Or find a new position for him to play?

Angels are planning to take turns DHing Garret Anderson and Vlad with Gary Matthew Jr. playing left field. That'll improve their offense and their outfield defense because both Anderson and Vlad are no longer great fielders. If they can get Cabrera, imagine a 3-6 of Vlad, Cabrera, Hunter, Anderson! WOW that's a pretty crazy lineup!

That is a crazy line-up. But I heard Tim Kurkjian one time state that Vlad's OBS was like a lot lower when he DHs than when he plays the field. Perhaps this is just an anomoly, but we will find out, I guess.

Wow I never knew that about Vlad. Well one thing I can see that will definitely help Vlad by dhing him is it will prevent him from getting burned out by the post season. Vlad is HORRIBLE in the post season. If you look at his stats, he's worse than A-Rod in October (I know, hard to believe). Overall, if the Angels can pull off the trade for Cabrera then they are definitely one of the early favorites for the world series.

Perhaps the rest he gets from time to time DHing will help him out. The thing is, its hard to take that arm out of the outfield.
