I don't think he's really THAT good. He has a job and a life, I imagine.

y would a commercial have anything to do with his amatuer status. I can understand something like him being rewarded for how good he was at golf. But he was advertising a buick car.

He's getting paid for it.

And it's golf-related.

It was concitered a contest, he won, therefore he lost his status as an amatur. He wasn't the only person to lose that status (he was one of four to win a car), but he's the only one who cared enough about it, since he's a defending champ to at least 2 events he can't play in.

Yeah, he's most likely not good enough to go pro. And even if he is and he starts playing, he'd most likely be gunning for the Senior Tour (age 50).

Being in a commercial is putting your name on a commercial venture and that is where the problem arose. The folks with the contest said that they were informed that he could lose his amateur status.

somebody define how u lose ur ametuer status. I thought u can only losing it if u win more than 500 dollars in a single event based on ur golf skill. But obviously i was wrong becuase other golfers lost there ametuer status jsut for being in the commercial. There was no skill involved in that. So wat then. If i accepted checks for watching My dad hit a hole in one on a Walmart commercial am i still not an ametuer.

Several other golfers were shot (with the camera) shooting at the green, not observing. They were playing golf in a comercial for which they are paid for, therefore the forfiet their status.

In this case, you're dad would lose his status as amateur, and if you were playing, you'd likely lose that status too.

well i have won a clostest to the pin contest at a scramble before and won a 12 pack of balls, and my dad had to accept them to me and give them to me when we got home, because the host of the tornament said that i wouldnt be able to play on my high school team if i accepted them. Does that mean both me and my dad should lose our amateur status? or just one of us?
