what if 96 teams made the ncaa tournament. they could have a play-in round instead of just one play-in game. there would be no need for the NIT. or...what if the NIT champion gets an auto bid to the ncaa. that way the nit winner will have something else to play for besides being the nation's "66th best team" _________________ My teams: red sox, bruins, celtics, patriots, boise state football, michigan state basketball, richmond braves aaa baseball. |

| I think you got the right idea but that specific number would leave five rounds to be played before the other 64 teams play even one game (32 teams would play five rounds to eliminate all but one team, who would go on to play with the other 64). |

what i meant was that 64 teams play in the opening round. the remaining 32 play the 32 that got the bye. maybe award the byes to the conference tournament winners. ur right, i didnt word it the right way _________________ My teams: red sox, bruins, celtics, patriots, boise state football, michigan state basketball, richmond braves aaa baseball. |

| Oohh I see. That kinda makes sense. I'm a huge fan of the traditional 64/65 team bracket but at the same time there are some teams that are left out that finish let's say 4th or 5th in a major conference that would tear up a mid-major that gets in. |

i think its alright, but i still like the 64 team way............it eliminates all the stuff and gets right down to the teams that would prolly get that far anyway _________________ NHL = Nashville Predators

It isn't a bad idea. It would really shake things up, and I think the more mid-major teams that get in, the better. However, with as many 1st round upsets that we have now, there are just as many 1st round slaughters. Eventually, you just end up delaying the inevitible.
If everyone could be a Cinderella team, then it wouldn't mean as much.
I like the 65 team bracket. Besides that, could you imagine trying to fill out a bracket for 96 teams???
Besides, there are only 115 NCAA schools, isn't there? If you let 96 in, then why not let them all in? _________________ www.chiefswarpath.com |

| There are 116 Division I-A football programs but there are 336 in basketball. Not that I disagree. Too many teams at the bottom would be showing up just to make an appearance. |

Ah, that is where I was getting my number. Thanks for the correction.
Anyhow, I think the more you expand the field, the less and less of an attraction it becomes. You wouldn't have all of the bubble team talk, it wouldn't make a difference who you scheduled your team play, and the conference tournaments would be irrelevant. _________________ www.chiefswarpath.com |

No matter how many teams you put in the tournament there will always be problems. Whether you have 96, 112 or whatever ever number you want to throw in there problems exist. Right now the 66, 67, 68 ext... teams are griping about not getting in, if you move it to 112 the 113,114 and so on teams are upset that they can't play in the tournament. The tournament has worked just fine with 64 teams, so I say leave it where it is. _________________ Team over Talent |
