I saw this one earlier today. I have also seen the original but it was years ago and Im drawing more blanks then actual memories about it.
This movie was impressive with its visual effects. But what movies arent these days? And, like the original (and the book, i presume), it sparks a lot of thought and imagination. The thought of our future not only 30 years from now, but hundreds of thousands of years from now is intriguing. I enjoy seeing peoples perspectives of our future.
However this movie, like most similar movies, takes the cheap way out and assumes a collapse of civilization and a reversion back to primative times. An effect very easy to accomplish, very easy to pull off, and a demonstration that whoever put this movie together lacked the patience and the imagination to come up with something original.
The image of our immediate future is interesting, and shocking, and enjoyable to watch. But once Alexander decided to go farther in the future and watched New York city go from skyscrapers to, well, Amazon Rainforest, the movie lost originality and purpose.
I recomend you wait till this movie comes out on DVD to watch it. The visual effects are spectacular just like everything else these days, so you wont be missing much seeing it on a smaller screen.

I didn't see this but I did read the book. I don't tend to like movies inspired by books if I read the book already. That's why I didn't like Field of Dreams..

| I saw it. Pretty good, IMO. The ending seemed kinda strange to me...like is that it? But, never having read the book or seen the original movie, I really don't have anything to judge it off of. But I enjoyed it. |

The ending was weird. I left with the same feeling you did. "Is that it? Shouldnt he go back? Something's missing here..."
Ice Age is that one with that Ray Romano guy in it isnt it? You would think that that guy would have the perfect voice for an animated feature, but, watching the commercials it is just annoying. His voice stands out too much. |
