Yeah, but will it get squandered on someone like Sylvester Morris again? I hope not. I hope they draft the best left tackle that is available in the draft.

Chiefs - 17
Titans - 26

The Chiefs lose at home, in December. Ouch. Not good. I missed the first half, being out to eat lunch with my parents, but it seemed like they were holding on well, and Croyle was playing well. Then, in the second half, the wheels came off. Too many throws TG's way ended up in a pick, aside from another errant pass. Smith looked good again, and had some good passing yards to go with his rushing yards. On the defensive side, it didn't seem like the Chiefs could get much pass rush going.

Chiefs - 20
Lions - 25

I thought that the open drive was looking good for the Chiefs, but then it kind of stopped dead from there. The D was getting thumped, and then Dustin Colquitt's first career blocked punt started a long day. It seemed to me that the offense tried to dink-and-dunk too much early on.

During the course of the game, Tony Gonzalez became the 4th TE in NFL history to have 3 1000+ yards receiving seasons, joining HOF players like Kellen Winslow, Sr., Todd Christiansen, and Shannon Sharpe (is it a coincidence that all of these players played the bulk of their careers in the AFC West? I think not! ).

After this event, Croyle goes right back to TG, and throws an interception that gets returned for a TD, and also costs Croyle the rest of the game due to a wrist injury (along with a penalty for an illegal tackle attempt by Croyle. Gotta give him kudos for trying, though). Damon Huard then filled in the rest of the game, and did quite well. In the past 3 games, the Chiefs had been outscored something like 47-3 in the 2nd half of their games, and in the last 6 games, the Chiefs had not scored at all in the 4th quarter . Thankfully, they rectified this problem.

Notes: Jarred Allen recorded 2 more sacks, for 13 on the season, I think. He also scored his 2nd receiving TD of the season, showing that he is becoming a threat on goal line situations. Tamba Hali also recorded a sack, giving him 7 1/2 for the season thus far. On 4th and 14, Dwayne Bowe made another awesome TD catch, good from 34 yards out. This guy has a bright future ahead of him, and could be one of the best Chiefs receivers since Stephone Paige.

Jets - 13

Herm Edwards return to the Meadowlands was not very enjoyable. Although the Chiefs fought it to overtime, they still couldn't get a win, and Brody Croyle is now 0-6 as a starter. However, it is way to early to judge his career by what has happened in this season. He shows a lot of promise, and is a player that the Chiefs can build a team around...specifically, an offensive line.

One defensive play of note that I want to point out was early on in the game where Derrick Johnson was flying downfield, step-for-step with a WR. He is so fast, and if he can cover like that once in a while, then wow. He is a special player.

Kolby Smith suffered an early injury, and was replaced by Jackie Battle early in the game. The running game suffered pretty bad. At half-time, the Chiefs only had 38 yards of total offense, and 3 first downs.

At the 13:28 mark in the 3rd quarter, Tony Gonzalez caught his 816th career reception, setting the record for a TE, surpassing Shannon Sharpe on the all-time list. Congrats, Tony. I hope that KC can get you a Super Bowl ring in the next few years, too.

Notes: Larry Nemers, the head referee for Sunday's game, officiated his last NFL game, and is retiring after 23 years as an official. I wish him well.

The Chiefs finish the 2007 season 4-12 (3rd in the AFC West), on a 9 game losing streak, tying the longest such streak in franchise history.

On a side note, Carl Peterson will be back in his role as President and GM next year, for his 20th season. It sounds at though offensive coordinator Mike Solari might be hunting for a new job, though.

AFC West Standings 2007:
San Diego Chargers: 11-5
Denver Broncos: 7-9
Kansas City Chiefs: 4-12
Oakland Raiders: 4-12

A pretty bad year all-around for the AFC West, in my opinion, which is usually a tough conference. I expected Denver to be better with their offseason acquisitions, but oh well.

Here are the opponent's scheduled for the Chiefs next year:

Home:
Denver
Oakland
San Diego
Buffalo
Miami
Tennessee
New Orleans
Tampa Bay

Away:
Denver
Oakland
San Diego
New England
New York Jets
Cincinnati
Atlanta
Carolina

Notable are the games with New England, Tennesee, and Tampa Bay, all of whom made the playoffs this year. New Orleans will be tough again as well, and Cincinnati, with their high-powered offense. Times and dates to be set later.

The Chiefs are in the hunt for an offensive coordinator now. I am not surprised by this, but I don't think the lack of production can be pinned totally on Mike Solari. Here is a story that basically states what I have been telling everyone I talk to about the major problem the Chiefs had this year: an aging offensive line: http://www.chiefswarpath.com/cgi-bin/news/viewnews.cgi?category=1&id=1199463999

Some good news: Jared Allen was named AP All-Pro 1st team, and Tony Gonzalez was named to the 2nd team. Allen lead the NFL in sacks with 15.5.
