Colts - 13
Chiefs - 10

If this week brought anything good, it was the debut of Brodie Croyle. From what I saw, I like him. Man, he has a rifle for an arm! The TD pass he threw to Dwayne Bowe (who should be catching at least 10 balls a week) was awesome.

The defense looked good, but the Colts offense was struggling as well. This was KCs best chance to beat Indy, and they didn't get it done.

I don't think I care for Herm Edward's style of game play. To be honest, I don't think it is all that much different than when Marty was coaching in KC. It really is too bad, too, with a young, strong-armed QB and a rookie WR that could really light it up down the field.

The Chiefs play the Raiders this week, without LJ and without Priest Holmes. I don't know if this makes Kolby Smith the starter or not, or if they bring in someone to committee with.

Here is a brief article on Larry Johnson's foot injury. It appears that it may be more severe than LJ and the Chiefs would let on.

Raiders - 20
Chiefs - 17

The Raiders snapped all kinds of bad streaks by beating the Chiefs this week. Of all the games I thought the Chiefs could count on winning this season, the two against the Raiders were the ones. A few notes on the game:

1. Kolby Smith. He looked phenomenal. Now, we should keep in mind that Oakland came into the game with the 31st ranked run defense in the league. If Smith gets the start next week, let's hope he can do more of the same. Nonetheless, his performance was a very welcome sight.

2. Dave Rayner. He missed a 33-yard FG attempt. Brings back memories of Lin Elliot...

3. Herm Edwards decisions. The time out he called, and then threw the challenge flag to fight the spot of the ball, which I thought was not a good idea. I guess I can't fault him for not putting Rayner on the field to try to tie the game in the 4th. However, I don't think he used Croyle enough. He needs to throw the ball a bit more often. I think with as well as Smith ran the ball, play action passing would have been the way to go. Too conservative for my likes.

The San Diego rushing defense is also ranked very poorly, so I'm hoping for a repeat.

I hope so, too. I picked up both Kolby Smith and Justin Fargas in my other fantasy league. So we'll see if that pays off.

At any rate, Edwards is being super-ultra-too conservative with the unleashing of Brodie Croyle, so you know Smith will get his touches.

12-2-07

Chiefs - 10
Chargers - 24

Chiefs fall to 4-8, and last in the AFC West.

Due to a back injury suffered last week, Brodie Croyle was out for the game, and Huard was back in. I am not very confident in Huard's ability to throw the ball. He has what I like to call "Tony vision." All he can seem to find is Tony Gonzalez. Not that Tony is a bad target; far from it. However, you can only key on a guy so long before a defense shuts it down. Edwards also seems comfortable letting Huard throw the ball, but not Croyle, who has the better arm. Huard was sacked 7 times, and Thigpen once, for 8 sacks on the day. Ouch. Huard also threw 2 INTs.

Kolby Smith was human this week, and the line went back to normal. Incidentally, Kolby Smith is the first rookie RB to start a game for the Chiefs since Greg Hill, in '94, I think.

This was also a bad day for injuries: Damon Huard, Donnie Edwards, Bennie Sap, Greg Wesley, and Damion McIntosh all left the game.

Tyler Thigpen filled in for Huard at QB. He was the first player ever to be drafted out of Coastal Carolina University. He did throw one pic, on a pass in which the intended target was...Tony Gonzalez.

Streaks, notes, etc:
Congrats to LaDanian Tomlinson for passing Walter Payton on the all-time rushing TD list.

Tony Gonzales had his 22nd career 100+ yard receiving game.

LT rushed for over 1000 yards in his 7th straight season.

The Chiefs had not lost 5 games in a row in 27 years.

Man, my condolences. You weren't one of those "fans" that left early, were you?

One good thing that came out of last week was the signing of John Carney to kick. Yeah, he is older, and about ready to call it in, but he is at least accurate from inside 40 yards.

Last weeks injuries are taking their toll on Chiefs as well. McIntosh and Edwards are ruled as questionable for this week's game at Denver, and Croyle is going to attempt to practice this week. Hopefully, he plays. However, it is going to be tough game in Denver.
