From ESPN:

The New York Knicks are well aware of Mike D'Antoni's strong desire to coach the Chicago Bulls, as well as Chicago's strong interest in hiring D'Antoni.
They're simply ignoring all that.
NBA coaching sources told ESPN.com on Wednesday that the Knicks continue to regard D'Antoni as their new No. 1 target to replace Isiah Thomas and are preparing a "staggering" financial offer they hope will prove too steep for Chicago to compete with, thus convincing D'Antoni to spurn the Bulls. |

He wouldn't be my top choice, but then again, aside from Jeff Van Gundy who said he has no intentions of coaching next year, the list of viable coaching candidates is a bit thin.
D'Antoni likes to run a "run and gun" style of offense, so he's probably two or three years too late for the Knicks. The Knicks are actually one of the bigger teams in the Eastern Conference and their big guys (Curry, Randolph, even Lee to an extent) don't really move around much. Not to mention that D'Antoni coached Stephon Marbury in Pheonix and apparently was not a big fan of him.
With that being said, I'm not sure I'm a fan of the rest of the candidates either. Avery Johnson's defensive mindset might be good for the team but he's one of those "no nonsense" guys, and that didn't work out well with Larry Brown at the Garden. Mark Jackson appears to be the #2 favorite but he doesn't have any coaching experience.
My man for the job would be Herb Williams, although I doubt he'd really be looked at. He did a nice job as interim coach in '05 and has been on the Knicks' sidelines as an assistant ever since he retired as a player. He seems to have a pretty good relationship with those players, as well. |

i think he will help them win ball games which is what they really want right now and prolly make the playoffs.........thats their #1 goal, win ball games and make the post season.........then if they do that, then its to make it far in the playoffs, then finals then if they accomplish all those..........then MAYBE we can think title _________________ NHL = Nashville Predators

I think this is a better signing than Carlisle in Dallas. It will be a process, but if he brings that much offense to NY, they should be fun to watch. _________________ www.chiefswarpath.com |

I'm not sold that the Knicks are all of a sudden a contender just because Mike D'Antoni is behind the bench. Personally, I think he underachieved a bit in Pheonix given that roster and the Knicks really need: A) somebody who can coach defense, or B)players who can play defense. I'm tired of the Knicks repeatedly scoring 115+ points and losing.
On the bright side, D'Antoni has been labeled as a "player's coach." Players seem to enjoy playing for him, and hopefully this will help heal the Knicks' chemistry issues. |

I don't think he and Marbury will get along, again.
However, it will be about 3 years before he can right the ship in NY. _________________ www.chiefswarpath.com |

they have the roster for it if new gm and coach can dump off some contracts...such as eddy curry..but otherwise they actually are well eqquipped for a run and gun offense.
marbury at point or possibly a lucky pick in rose maybe even nate robinson, crawford at 2, q-rich at 3 a former sun, a quality big man in david lee.
they just need a athletic C and some key bench players. but the real big issue is at the point, can marbury run d'antoni's offense at least as half as smoothly as steve nash? |
