Major trade that just went down today.

The Sixers send Dikembe Mutombo to the New Jersey Nets for Todd MacCulloch and Keith Van Horn.

What do you think of this trade, Flipside?

I don't know man. I don't know how to look at it from you Sixers' standpoint because I don't really think MacCulloch has much game and Keith Van Horn used to have a nice all-around game in college but since he's been at the N.B.A. level, all he does is chuck up threes for a big guy.

In one way, I like the Sixers side. Mutombo is 36 and signed to a contract that will pay him 54 million over the next 3 years. Although I like him, he could get up there in years.

Not sure, though.

Yeah I could see it from the Sixers' side too. Mutombo is getting old and this move is consistent with Philadelphia wanting to save Salary Cap money. The Sixers did the same thing when they traded their first round pick this past June (Jiri Welsch) to Golden State because they didn't want to pay his salary.

From the Nets' standpoint though it's a good trade for them because they are putting all their eggs into this year to get back to the Finals and maybe possibly win it because this is Jason Kidd's last year in his contract. The Nets need to do their best to show him that they're trying to win a Championship so he'll want to re-sign here and this trade for Mutombo goes a long to showing that.

Yeah, I agree. Both sides get something.

That's right, this trade is probably one of those unsure trades for both sides. I feel Mutombo was taking out of the equation offensively & more importantly defensively last year because of the new 'defence' rule. I believe Mutombo could have been much more effective even with this new rule.

Karl Malone & John Stockton was totally whacked when it was first introduced but later adapted to it & the Jazz were actually heading up the hills real fast at some point last season.

I believe Larry Brown is a top coach but could have done a much better job in making this transition which lead to this trade! My 'Geod' Mutombo did look so hopeless & helpless at very many games everytime some team would deliberately concentrate on Mutombo being '0' factor.

Enough reviews back to the topic Van Horn wasn't as good as he use to be last season, like Spike said too many outside shots for someone his size, He use to have an outside-in or inside-out game, now its just outside, whats the deal there? He is trying to be like Dirk or something but even Dirk takes it inside. Tod? Well I don't know he is ok I guess.

I don't favor what Philly did but optimistically I can see what they are trying to do. I just dont feel those 2 [Todd & Keith] are the right players or mix though. In NBA.com they say, this gives Philly more offensive weapons! But last season in the finals, Kenyon Martin was hammering Keith that he didn't play hard enough, defensively & offensively! So go figure

This brings me to my next topic, the last few seasons the 76'ers have been pretty good getting to the Playoffs (got very close to getting in the finals) then finally getting to the Finals. Now the most interesting part here is in these seasons they were a much better defensive team, Mutombo dominated the year they got to the finals & the season before that they had Ratliff who was also a defensive jugernaut before messing up his knee. Those years every Philly player was also defensive minded because of what Ratliff & Mutombo brought to the game. Now Todd & Keith comes along... you imagine the rest guys The 76'ers will find themselves too small again (like back in the days where they wish they had a true centre like Mutombo) & struggle on the defensive side. PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG THOUGH!

I am going to be optimistic about this one in Philly's sake, maybe this is a good wake up call for Keith Van Horn & hopefully he will bring his A-game back & dominate the NBA alongside Iverson next year! WOO HOO! Too good to come true I believe if their defence will become not solid!

Oh my, I think I have sidetracked a bit & post has gotten long so I better stop & finally say, I believe the Nets have gotten the upper side of the trade but could work out either way, we'll just have to wait and see won't we Sorry my post was too long but it was my 76'ers so cudn't hesitate!
