Ding-Dong Rocker's Gone!
Just saw a headline that John Rocker has been traded to the Cleveland Indians. Great stuff!
More to come...no exact words on the deal yet...

Just found out a little more about the trade.
The Atlanta Braves got relievers Steve Reed and Steve Karsay in return for Rocker and minor league 3B Troy Cameron.
You know, I hate John Rocker just as anybody else. I pride in the fact that during a visit to Turner Field I yelled a couple of choice comments at him when he ran by the outfield wall during batting practice.
But you have to admit, hate him or not, Rocker is one hell of a pitcher. He reminds me a lot of Mark Whohlers in his hay-day. I'll never forget last week's Braves-Yankees game when amazingly beaning Derek Jeter and * off the crowd and loading the bases he amazingly ended the inning. That's talent.
Regardless if he's a cancer or not, the Indians got one heck of a deal. Karsay and Reed have had good success this year, but Reed is 35 and Karsay is just under 30. Rocker is 26 and has a career ERA below 2.60 ERA. Karsay and Reed both have had shaky careers and combine for an average ERA above 4.00
I personally liked hating John Rocker in a Braves uniform, being the Yankee fan I am. Rocker is just lucky he's not going to have to see Shea Stadium as much anymore, but he's still going to have to get past the home of My Bronx Bombers

Rocker is not very effective on the second straight day, though...but the dual-closer situation there shouldn't make that a problem.
The Indians got a good deal, as long as he can keep his big mouth shut.

| I think the Braves have just had enough of this guy and simply got sick of him. Wasn't it only last week that he said something like "I'd rather be sweeping the floor at a peep-show that talking to you guys" during a press conference? Then there was Chipper Jones accusing him of making a bench clearing incident even worse, and saying that he should mind his own business. The Braves players will be glad to see the back of him...it's never been that kind of clubhouse at Atlanta with a lot of controversy. Chipper Jones has been suggesting on the MLB.com site today that he thinks it was probably Rocker's big mouth that got him traded away. He is a good closer, but is it worth all the aggravation? Seems like Atlanta got a good deal to me. It wouldn't surprise me if Barry Bonds ends up in Atlanta next year. |

Oh good deal by Atlanta. I hate this guy. I went to a Mets game at Shea against Atlanta. Way too many police......
