| I heard an argument today that I found interesting. Some proponents of a playoff system state that a team should not be able to go to the Rose Bowl without winning their conference, or division for that matter. My argument to that is this: Nebraska would be in the playoffs if their were such a thing, right? Would they not have a chance to still win it all without winning their conference then? Would Tennesee, Georgia, Florida, and the other many teams that would have made the playoffs without winning their conference have a chance to win the Rose Bowl. Yes, they would. So the argument that you should have to win your conference doesn't really hold water, if you are a proponent of the playoff system. Now, if the BCS is to remain intact, which it will for another few years, I think the conference game should count as a quality win - or they should at least somehow get credit for winning their conference. As it stands right now, those games can only hurt a team. |
