Even though it will never happen because of…what else…money, it is nice to know the results would most likely be the same….Miami will be National Champions, regardless of who they play or should play. The question is…how much longer and how much more controversy do we have to endure to see a real championship game in the greatest sport on earth?
No other sport in the world has a system that will allow a team to play for the National Championship that didn’t even win their conference, no matter how good their record is, who they played, or what a computer says. Computers are supposed to make things easier, but it seems they are just making it worse.
Over the past few weeks, everyone has been saying how exciting the past few weeks of college football have been. And it’s true. They claim it’s just like a playoff. Well, it’s not. It is, however, an indication of how exciting a playoff would be.
Who in their right mind wouldn’t find this exciting? There would be NO controversy on who the National Champs would be. Just look at who Miami would have to go through to win it all. Yes, money is obviously the problem, but you don’t think people will travel to these games? You don’t think people will watch them on TV?
So there won’t be any games on New Years Day…so what? At least we will be able to savor in the fact that there will be a legitimate champion. If there must be football on New Year’s Day, so be it, just move the beginning of the season up one week. Simple. Obviously, this is a hypothetical situation, and I won’t pretend to understand the logistics or financial aspects of going to a system such as this.
But answer me this: What will be the financial situation when the fans and the schools get fed up with the annual controversy of who should play for the National Championship, and quit going to or watching college football all together?

I actually like a playoff system for NCAA football. Personally, I would actually be more interested in NCAA football if they had something similar to what you put here. Part of what turns me away from college football is the way that the rankings/championships work, it is too unorganized, and needs to be fixed.
Though I do think it is imperative to have college football on New Years Day Its like NFL on Thanksgiving.
