If teams don't want to sign him, then that is their perogative. Why should they? I think the first post reply after the article pretty much sums it up. If he does sign, he is going to be signing a contract based on what he has done, as opposed to what he might do. And by signing a one-year deal, it doesn't help any team that is building. _________________ www.chiefswarpath.com |

Yeah, I could see a case being made for collusion if a guy didn't already have the history that Bonds has. He has a reputation of being a clubhouse cancer and a steroid user. I don't know Barry personally so I can't say I know he is all of those things for a fact, and I realize that there are other clubhouse cancers and steroid users in baseball as well. But it is not as if opportune teams that are not signing him are making such a decision without reason.
Not that many teams are going to want to throw $10 million at a 43-year old man that can't play the field, may very well have to cut his season short to tend to a trial for perjury, and could be booed every night by his home fans.
I think that when July or August rolls around and there are a few big market teams still on the bubble for a postseason spot, guys like Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa will be looked at more closely. But here on May 9, teams that can afford to sign a guy like Bonds such as the Yankees, Red Sox, and White Sox just don't have enough room on their roster for another DH. |
