If it's your first time, make sure you go on a day where the course won't be too occupied (try for overcast conditions without rain, NOBODY plays on these days). This makes it a lot easier to take your time (aka Be Patient!), and not have people constantly wanting to "play through you".

dont buy the most expensive equipment out there start out with a good set of used clubs and upgrade to better equipment when you get better

I'm about to buy a new set of clubs. I'm actually taking golf for my PFW in school.

dont worry about bad shots just slow down and the stroke will come also taking lessons just to get the basics down will help

Start off slow. Don't try too hit the ball too hard. You'll get really frustrated if you just keep trying to crush the ball. Just try to get the mechanics down before anything else. And remember, you'll probably suck for a long time.

Work on your short game - Putting, Chipping and Pitching - it will consist of over 70% of your game as a begginer.
