Of course it would! However, the Patriots hardly ever sign guys that are in the middle part of there career. So Franchise tag it is!

Of course the franchise tag for Wilfork would be a slap in the face but this francise is known for nickel and diming there players. There lucky that Brady took the discount for the team or he could have broke the bank like the Manning brothers are doing now.

The franchise tag is a slap in the face to Wilfork but that's how the Patriots do business, they don't want to pay there best players that's why Brady took the home team discount.

Wilfork has been given the franchise tag: http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nfl/news/story?id=4936236

Both the team and he say they hope to work out a long-term deal, however.

And the Patriots have given him $40 million over 5 years, according to a source. This would make him the highest paid nose tackle in football.

I think he is worth the money however football is all about business. He is similar to the Vikings Pat Williams...look what he has done for them at 37 years old.
