| I don't really know much about college football, so if some of yous could help me out. I understand that the champions from each BCS conference get an automatic bid to one of the BCS bowl games, but, for the mid-majors, they most likely have to go undefeated to even smell an invitation. My question is concerning Notre Dame, knowing that they aren't a part of any conference would they have to travel the same route as the mid-majors to get to a BCS bowl game? Methinks not. I can see Notre Dame getting into one with one loss, but I don't see the Utahs or Boise States being able to do that, so why the special treatment? Or am I wrong? Help needed. |

Memo1b:
Without a playoff in Division I-A, bowl matchups are often determined by human opinion and perception. It is perceived that the schedules of both Utah and Boise St. are collectively less competitive than that of Notre Dame over the past years. And rightfully so. Boise St. and Utah's schedules are littered with awful competition on an annual basis. Year in and year out, they play the likes of Utah St., UNLV, New Mexico, San Jose St., Idaho, Louisiana Tech and New Mexico St. to name a few. Not exactly the toughest competition. Notre Dame, on the other hand, consistently plays a tougher schedule which features USC every season. So a 1 loss season with Notre Dame's schedule is "more impressive" than a 1 loss season from Utah or Boise St. |

Utah and Boise State can't do anything about their conferences, though. I think that has to be taken into consideration, as well. The Big East isn't a very tough conference, either, but the winner of that conference will get a better game, more than likely, due to the money factor. _________________ www.chiefswarpath.com |
