I found it interesting how rare of a feat that is (one player with both 3000 hits and 500 HR).

Is he? Im not sure. I think he deserves to be in mainly because he was the dominant player at his position for such a long time. Look at his numbers:
1 MVP
9 straight GGs
282 HRs - at second base - including a league leading 40 in 1990...how often does a second baseman lead the league in homers??!!
.285 lifetime BA
2386 hits
