Remember when webcasts of games were free? Well after this week, that will be a thing of the past. MLB is offering monthly subscriptions to all webcasts for about $5 or the season for $10.
How does that make you feel?
I'll express my opinions, soon, in 500 words or more on the main site... |

Yeah where I live (in northern California), the Giants' flapship radio station (KNBR) is fighting Major League Baseball about that.
KNBR has their own website and they want to continue to broadcast Giant games for free so there could be little court battle here soon.
For now, KNBR says they'll continue to broadcast Giant games for free over the Internet until May 1.

Honestly, I don't mind paying.
To come to that conclusion, I have to think of just a few years ago, when to listen to the Cubs, or Brewers, or White Sox here in Minnesota, I had to hope thier AM signals traveled all the way here once in a while, of course only during night.
Technology is a wonderful thing, and although the games we're free last year and recently, I don't think ten dollars for a full year of broadcasts is that unreasonable, especially when they give you a ten dollar gift certificate to the Major League Baseball Shop in addition. I know that's just a ploy to get you to spend more money, but since most of us would pay the $10 anyway, that's kinda a nice bonus. They didn't have to do that.
Also, last year if I wanted to listen to a game, first I had to find the station, hope they had the "listen live" feature (any stations owned by Infinity Broadcasting do not broadcast live, if both teams we're broadcast on Infinity, you're out of luck), hope I had the right software (Real Audio, Windows player, etc), blah blah blah. Too much hassle. Now they are all on one convenient page.
Now if the price went up a lot more, I might have a different opinion, but for right now, count me as a supporter of baseball's plan!!

| I think its a joke we have to pay. They already make us pay to much for tix and food when we actually go to see a game, now they want more money just for us to listen to games? I live in Florida, but I hate the D-Rays and don't really care about the Marlins, now its even harder for me to follow a Yanks game, I have to GameCast it in Espn. If Baseball cares about its fans so much, they shouldn't charge us for trying to listen to our favorite team. |
