The 'Canes and Hokies both accept invite from ACC, leaving the Big East effective for the 2004-2005 season.
I personally understand why Miami has decided to leave the Big East. I'm a 'Canes fan and I think this will add some "beef" to their schedule.
I hear the Big East is going to try to get Louisville, maybe Central or Southern Florida, and if necessary, Cincinnati. |

I don't know about the 2 Florida school that it will add but I think Louisville and Cincy would be good additions. I think Marshall would also be a good addition.
I have a feeling that the basketball schools will form a new conference (Villanova, Georgetown, St johns, Seton Hall).
I wouldn't be surprised in the next year or 2 you see Notre Dame join a conference because NBC won't spill out all that money again like it did last time.
I will tell you one thing. This is going to cause major changes throughout the college conferences _________________ Chris

Yeah, Notre Dame would be huge for the Big East but I'm not sure they would except the invite.
I hope it does shake up the other conferences and maybe get the NCAA to make a playoff system. They could divide each conference and rotate schedules and cut off a few games in favor of a season ending playoff. |

Everyone is saying that Virgina Tech is so powerful. They had a losing record last year against Conference team. So is the big east better then they are saying or is Virgina tech over-hyped? _________________ Chris

This absolutly absurd! all these teams can't leave the big east. The Big East is a quality college sports confrence but with the departure of Miami, Syracuse, and possibly Virgina Tech the big east has become a horrible confrence. Bringing in Notre Dame would help a lot but Notre Dame wouldent accept because all the teams in the big east now are horrible and they need to keep a good rep. I say that Miami and syracuse be forced to return to the big east! _________________ God created the earth in 6 days. And on the Seventh Day He Said, "Let There Be Football." And there was football. And it was good. Later that day God said, "Let There Be One Team To Rule The Others, To Set The Standard Of Excellence." Only Miami and Virgina Tech is leaving.
Football wise the conference is weak now.
Notre dame is NOT coming to be the Big East. But I think they will join a conference sooner then later. But If they wait to long look for the Big10 to ask PITT to join the Big10. I know Joe Paterno has been lobbying for Pitt to join. He wants an in-state rival in the conference.
Basketball wise the big east is a hell of a lot better without adding anyone. IF they add Louisville and Cincy like the rumors say they will this is a powerhouse conference. _________________ Chris

I have a question. Why? Why wouldn't NBC do that?
Notre Dame is the most popular college football program in the country. |

The economy is weak and ratings are slipping. Remember throughout the length of the contract Notre Dame wasn't that good. Except for this past season. If they do take a step back again this year NBC I am sure will offer them a new deal but I don't think that is will be for that much more. At the same time the BCS contract is up and I think the money involved there will increase dramatically because of corperate sonsors. _________________ Chris

I think Notre Dame is still on the way up with Tyrone Willingham as their coach. I think N.B.C. sees this and will pony up a lot of dough again. N.B.C. doesn't have much in the sports department. They lost the N.B.A. last year, the N.F.L. a few years back, and Major League League Baseball exclusively to FOX. All they really have is the Olympics. I don't think it's unreasonable for them to look at what Willingham's done and put the bank into Notre Dame again, as the ratings will probably go up.
Notre Dame in turn has no incentive to join a conference. Why share that money with other conference teams. They don't need an automatic bid to the B.C.S. because the B.C.S. looks for any excuse to invite them in. Like that one year when Notre Dame got destroyed by Oregon State in the Fiesta Bowl, other teams were more worthy but the B.C.S. wanted Notre Dame. |
