Mark McGwire officially announced his retirement today:

http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2001/1111/1276851.html

I think it was a good decision. His stats have fallen dramatically. He only hit .187 ths year.

Another future HoFer retires (Gwynn and Ripken were the others)

Yeah, his 70 is more memorable to me than Bonds' 73 or whatever..

no, Mac is a great guy and I think to 90% of the public Mac's 70 was more memorable. Bonds is a jerk, in my opinion, Ive never liked the guy, Mac is the kind of guy that you cant help but to like, in my opinion.

ESPN noted, besides the very first HOF class (with Ruth etc...) this 2006 class could be the best ever. When do you get to see a 583 career homerun hitter, and 2 members of the 3000 hit club one of which played in a godly amount of consecutive names, and the other that was a career .330 somethin batter...amazing...i sure hope i can be there, too bad its on the other side of the continent

I think the class of 1999 was good too. I think that was with Nolan Ryan, Yount, and George Brett.
