Masters officials announced Thursday that, beginning in 2004, the tournament would not allow players over 65, and golfers could compete up to age 65 only if they played in 15 tournaments that year.

Absolutely crazy. I really do not like the Masters committee at all, anymore. Read the article... I think that it is pretty poor.

It definitely seems like the waited for Palmer, the savior of golf, to finish up before they made that rule. This is really a ridiculous and pathetic rule. What is the logic behind it?

Here is the logic that I think they are going to CLAIM:

1. The Masters is one of the most, if not the most, important, tournament. It must have a competitive field and no one who isn't in competition.

2. Faster rounds. They slow up the rounds.

3. Quality of golf. Some Tee-off and then WD, not many, but SOME. That brings up a problem for them.

Here is another good article on this subject:

http://sports.yahoo.com/pga/news/ap/20020430/ap-onthefringe.html

Some people did abuse the privelege, but they are making the wrong people suffer. If ANYTHING, they should make it: if people play one round or less and WD in two straight Masters, it is over. They shouldn't make them stop based on age or participation in OTHER tournaments.

Nicklaus is right, when you win that tournament, you win the right to play there every year and its the players decision when its time to stop.

Woods has said what he thinks now. His idea (O'Meara's idea) isn't bad.

That plan does sound like, at least, a fair compromise.
