Quote:
The Marlins and Rockies agreed Wednesday to a tentative six-player trade. The deal would send pitcher Mike Hampton and outfielder Juan Pierre to Florida in exchange for catcher Charles Johnson, outfielder Preston Wilson, pitcher Vic Darensbourg, and infielder Pablo Ozuna. The hold up is that both Hampton and Johnson have no-trade clauses in their contracts and have until midday Saturday to decide whether to waive them. Hampton initially said he would block it, but is reportedly reconsidering.

Kind of a big name trade there.

The Braves! Becuase they ended up with Hampton and only have to pay him around 6 million per year for 6 years. The only thing I don't like about it is the ramifications with the Glavine/Maddux contract negotiations.

Yeah, if it goes through like it is supposed to, the Marlins will trade Hampton to the Braves for Spooneybarger and an unnamed prospect.

I think that the Rockies did well. Johnson is a good catcher, and Hampton wasn't doing much in Colorado.

Mike Hampton is bad though. Even on the road he wasn't good. Why take Hampton when they could have gone after Glavine?

Yeah, I don't understand that either. May have been the salary, since I think the Rockies are going to be eating some of the Hampton contract.

That might be it. I really thought Glavine wanted to come back to Atlanta.

Hampton is a real risky guy to pick up though. Newsday listed it as one of the mysterious deals of the 2002 off-season. The hiring of Art Howe was also on the list...
