ESPN.com news services
Imagine Dirk Nowitzki and Karl Malone playing beside each other.
It just might happen.
Malone told The Dallas Morning News the Mavericks are one of the leading contenders for his services next season. The free-agent forward, who has spent his 18-year NBA career with the Utah Jazz, is considering joining another team in an attempt to make a last run at a championship.
"(The Mavericks) definitely are high on the list," Malone said. "And I don't have a very long list, either."
Malone, one of the most durable players in NBA history, has said he would like to play two more seasons. He turns 40 in July. He has 36,374 points in his career, and needs 2,014 to pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the all-time leading scorer.
The Mavericks could also use Malone's no-nonsense approach and toughness inside.
"Playing 18 years, it's still fun," he said. "I'm still competitive and I still hate to lose. That's my attitude, and I don't think that will ever change." _________________ JustBBall: Die-Hard Basketball Fans Only! |

Malone got only a few years left and hes been fading of late. Maybe a change of teams will rejuvinate him. _________________ Detroit Red Wings / NHL.com / Sporting News

I sure hope that doesn't happen, him going to the Mavs or Lakers.
That would make them, particularly the Lakers, a lot better.
I hope he stays in Utah. |

i dont think he'll fit. Both of those teams need a role playing pf. Not one going for the all time points scored record. _________________ My teams

| Yeah that's why I'd be a lot more scared if the Mavericks signed P.J. Brown instead of Karl Malone. |
