That is a good arguement, but evey team that Shaq has played on has had success in the playoffs, and some were close to being championship teams. I don't think Kobe brings the same thing to the table. _________________ www.chiefswarpath.com |

I haven't paid that close attention, but I think that every team Shaq has played on has also had at least one other guy and often times a pretty good supporting cast. In Orlando, he had a young Penny. In Los Angeles, he had Kobe. In Miami, he has Wade. Again, I don't follow the NBA that closely and I'm not trying to take anything away from Shaq (just like I am not trying to take anything away from Penny, Kobe or Wade), but the teams that he has been on that have won have had a number of talented players including at least one other pretty big time guy.
Of course, some of those players have missed time, but Shaq has missed plenty of time himself. In the end, those teams had both good or great players, not just one. Individually, they wouldn't have been as good, but together they are closer to where they need to be. _________________ Patrick O'Keefe - SportsForums.net Administrator

Good points, Patrick. But, what I think stands out is that Shaq helps those other players more than they help out by themselves. Kobe can score 50 a night, but that won't have the same impact as Shaq in the middle, blocking shots and pulling down 20 boards a game.
However, Shaq isn't really the same as he used to be, so the arguement begins to lose some of its backing. _________________ www.chiefswarpath.com |

Every team Shaq's been on has been to the finals and 2 out of 3 have won it all. Kobe hadn't been that kind of player for a while, I certain looked at him more of like a support cast for the first two championships (the third was more half and half). But now Kobe is that kind of player. He is the leader, the head hancho, the player that will carry them to their initial success. He the most awesome player in the league 31-5-5 with 1.5 steals. MVP? no. as a leader and a complete player he doesn't really beat dirk or steve. _________________ "If you are going to argue about statistics, then you BETTER have the statistics right."
