He wasn't going to play for the Ducks, since they opted not to resign him. It was a matter of finding a place to go. _________________ Detroit Red Wings / NHL.com / Sporting News

If he wins the cup this year I think he goes back to the ducks for some big money. _________________ Chris

He would likely stay in Colorado (if they resigned and probibally a bit more cash). I doubt he'd go back to the Ducks. I'd like to see him play in Detroit. _________________ Detroit Red Wings / NHL.com / Sporting News

I was hoping Wings would have signed Kariya, but then the mess with Hasek came up and is really screwing things up. |

I don't think Hasek's return effected Kariya's signing. Kariya never talked to other teams (only Colorado), and many teams (including Detroit) didn't know about the talks between Kariya and Avs until after deal was signed. _________________ Detroit Red Wings / NHL.com / Sporting News

the Hasek mess had no impact on Kariya, and as stated above they never talked to Kariya, and Colorado was the team that Selanne and Kariya contacted FIRST.......
The Av's are going to be completely offensive this year I think, but they still need to land a good goalie. At least a half decent one, cause I know that David Abescher (sp?) won't do the job. _________________ When the anesthesiologist leaned over me, he said, 'We named your kidney stone Kobe because it's not passing."- |

Detroit has an excellent defense and the unique situation of 2 first-class goalies and the best back-up in the league. Without Fedorov on the payroll, Detroit should be able to pick up some good offensive players. _________________ Detroit Red Wings / NHL.com / Sporting News

| That's not what was meant. Detroit knew Hasek was going to come back before July 1st. You all know what date that was, right? Since they had to keep an extra 8 million in reserve for Dom and not knowing if Federov was going to sign or not prevented Kenny Holland, of the Wings, from overextending their payroll limit. Everyone in hockey knew Kariya was going to be a free agent, but the Wings didn't even contact him? Ha! That's crap. Every team in the league probably asked him if he interested in joining their team. Kariya probably picked the Avs because he could rejoin his former team mate. |
