Well, the New York Daily News is reporting that the Yankees have decided to offer Phil, Melky and a prospect for Johan. I don't like it, but I guess I can live with it, if it happens. I'd still prefer them not to make the deal, but I guess we'll see how it goes.

When I first heard or the Yankees proposing to offer Phil Hughes in the Santana deal, I was more than skeptical. I figured they were going to find a way to inflate their already inflated payroll just to one up the Red Sox.
I really feel Hughes is a good young power pitcher with a lot of potential. This isn't exactly a secret...but. He's right handed.
If you're going to base your whole existence as an organization on being able to beat Boston then you have to be able to beat all the other teams between April and October.
My point is the Yankees need a good left handed starter. If that's what they need then go out and get the best. Why not? Neutralizing Big Papi has never been on the agenda? You can't do it with relief pitching if you're down 5-zip.
Potential vs. 2 time cy-young award winner (lefty). It's a no brainer
