...a number of the point guards nowadays are doing so well playing the other guard spot?
For example, Allen Iveson in Philly where Snow & Mackie plays point at plays. In Portland, Damon Stoudamire is playing good with Pippen running the point as well. He is scoring a lot more & can prove he can score if he didn't have to handle the ball as much.
With Iverson, he already proved that last year being the MVP & scoring champ at the of-guard spot.
The NBA is definitely changing which is good cos the 'small players' can prove that they are a lot more than great passers, but also great scorers! |

Yeah I think part of that is these days it's really hard to find a "pass first, shoot second" type of point guard at the pro level. Jason Kidd is one of the few exceptions. People believe nowadays that's it's okay to succeed without a pure point guard. Just look at the Bulls when Ron Harper was bringing up the ball. He's not a pure point guard.
Flipside, do you remember when Michael Jordan played some point guard for the Bulls in the early 1990's? He did that for part of a season and he was a pretty good at it I thought but he didn't like it too much. He said something like, "How the heck am I supposed to be the main ball distributor and main scorer on the team?". |

hahaha funny funny! Yes I do remember that which is of course a skill of its own
One time Kobe got interviewed in regards to the comparison with him & MJ. Kobe said, "I thing I am a better ball handler than MJ, MJ never handled the ball as much as I do, I dribble a lot more than him." Or something like that, which is a complete Bull$h#t! Only in MJ's last few years with the Bulls that he stopped dribbling as much because he wanted to preserve his energy as much as possible. |
