| Through the discussions of the BCS, some of those in power have said that they do not want to compromise the "integrity of the Bowl system", whatever that means. That went out with the creation of the Bowl Coalition and the Bowl Alliance systems that killed the traditional Bowl destinations for the various conferences with the exception of the Rose Bowl for the Big 10(11) and the Pac 10. The BCS just completed the destruction of any "integrity" by unlocking the Rose Bowl in certain cases (Big 10(11) and/or Pac 10 #1 or #2 in the BCS rankings; every 4th year when the Rose Bowl hosts the Championship game). Ironically, the Pac 10 has been hosed three times I can think of: (1) this year with USC, (2) two years ago with Oregon, and (3) 1999 (2000 Sugar Bowl) with Washington. The third one is mainly in response to Miami Hurricanes fans who think they got jobbed when Florida State went to the big game, based on the 'Canes beating FSU earlier that season. Only problem is, using that logic, Washington beat Miami that year and finished with the same record, therefore the Huskies should have been placed ahead of the 'Canes. I say this as no fan of the Pac 10, rather as a fan of the Big 10(11) in general and Michigan State in particular. I still wonder how fans can take this system seriously. |
