Hockey is a great sport but I think that the lockdown really pushed fans away from it and it may take a few years before it gets back to normal.

Yeah it will take a few years, but I think they're on the right track after a good season.

What you guys are talking about is just the american market. Here in Canada, hockey is as popular as ever.

I really hate to break it to you, but the American market is what really matters as far as the success of this league is concerned. 24 of the 30 NHL teams are based in the United States, so the league's success is really contingent on how it does in the American market. If only 6 of the 30 teams are selling tickets and bringing in enough revenue, the league isn't going to be in good shape. On the contrary, however, the Canadian market is probably the only reason the NHL could survive the disaster it had in 2005, so it's certainly not to say that the Canadian markets are unimportant. It's just that a league can't really thrive when there isn't any interest in 24 of the 30 markets.

Depends if you count tennis or soccer as sports or not.

I play high school hockey and over the years I have seen a bigger turnout in the tryouts at a couple local clubs and programs. Personally, I believe that hockey popularity is still under what it should be but it is still getting up there, you know?
About the lockout, I think that did push people away, last year, but now the NHL is getting more games on NBC and VS., now a lot of people do not get VS. In 2 years I think that the NHL will be back to where it normally was.
Hockey is not dead.
