|

Ok, this is our first time playing Fantasy (any sport) and we are trying to find a way to challenge each other thru the duration of a regular season with the following rules:
-We start by drafting 8 players each 2 centers, 3 guards and 3 forwards. At end of season, we choose our 5 best players with the best stats given there is 1 center, 2 guards, and 2 forwards. (3 extras are in case of injuries, etc)
-We want to track multiple stats (points, assists, rebounds, blocks, steals, etc)
-We do not want to have to track stats week by week.
-We want to be able to look up stats at any time during the year and figure out where we are. (no weekly head to head competition)
-Winner takes all (this is where I'm running into the problem of how do we determine winner?)
Ok, with these rules, obviously we can have a tie if, for instance, one player leads in pnts and assists, and another player leads in rebounds and blocks. So I'm trying to make it so at the end of the season, there is a clear winner, but at the same time, we want to take advantage more than one stat and also avoid tracking week by week (we just dont have the time to do that). The easy way is just to track one stat but it takes some of the strategy away if it just a all high scoring draft when we start.
Any ideas on how there can be one clear winner at the end? Thanks in advance for the suggestions. |

If you have four people and say 5 stat categories for example.
Rank it like this:
points leader get 4, second place get 3, 3rd 2, and last 1 point.
For example: These could be the totals in each category for the season
Team------Points---Rebounds----Assists---Blocks--Steals
Team 1-----105--------115--------115-------115------115
Team 2-----115--------110--------110-------110------110
Team 3-----110--------100--------105-------105------105
Team 4-----100--------105--------100-------100------100
These would be the rankings for each category:
Team-----Points---Rebounds---Assists---Blocks---Steals----Total Points
Team 1------2--------- 4------------4----------3----------4----------17
Team 2----- 4--------- 3------------3----------1----------3----------14
Team 3------3--------- 1----------- 2----------4----------2----------12
Team 4----- 1--------- 2------------1----------2----------1-----------7
This is how most sites determine who is the winner. Team 1 would win b/c he has the most total points.
Having said all of that my advice to you is to go to Yahoo Fantasy Sports. Create your own league with however many players you want, and set up a password to protect enrollment. You can then choose what stats you want tracked, and how the scoring is set up. Then Yahoo tracks the players for each team, and automatically updates the rankings for you. If you use this you can have a live draft so everyone gets to pick their own people, and it requires alot less work by you. |

| I don't know if you are going to use a Yahoo site or whatever, but on the Yahoo site you can set up a league based on a point system. I think the point system can be set up by the manager whether you want to give 3 points for a rebound or -1 points for a turnover. In theory, I guess there could be a tie, but my guess is that over a season the chances that two teams will end up tied is diminutive. |

Ok thanks you two. Since your posts, I've checked out Yahoo and will definitely give it a try. I'm not sure how we will work the point system, but it will be very similar to what you two have suggested. I plan to take advantage of as many stats as possible (5-7) to keep things interesting.
Trades, roster moves and things of that nature seem to be another rule I need to learn more about.
Do you know of any literature that I can read online regarding all the rules for fantasy leagues? |

| my advice to learn about roster moves and such is to just go trial and error method. It's too late to setup a fantasy baseball team on Yahoo, but you can still setup a football league with a similar scoring system to the oen your interested in for NBA. But when you set up the league make sure you choose the total points options instead of head to head. If you create the league and it doesn't go how you want it, you can just delete the thing and try again. |
