too bad none of you can read russian, there's a great article on this mess from russian media,
here's its main points
the russian journalists is speaking with his Los Angeles Times colleague, Randy Dalton
Randy says:
you (the russian journalist) may not know all the details, but believe me, for us, americans, canadians are not 'ours' (in the 'our brothers' sense)
we did not create this mess. we, like the rest of the world, only write about this story; and just like you we don't understand why the canadian got the gold medal - the investigation is not over, nobody went to court...
...for the canadian pair the situation is ideal, says Randy.
trust me, if they won on moday, then everybody would forget about them the next day. canada - is hockey.
but now everyone will speak of them as victims of bad judges, for the next year.
this girl, jamie, can now sit and write a book about this. she is probably already writing it...
...olympic champion Alexei Yagudin comments: "IOC's decision is strange. Last year in Vancouver (world figure skating championships) Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze skated better and lost. But nobody said anything..."
I (the russian journalist) hope that after the press-conference with IOC president and ISU president, those two thanks to whom the Canadians got the medal, things would become clear.
But, neither Rogge, nor Cinquanta could explain what evidence did the french judge put forward.
But it is exactly on this evidence that the canadians got the gold.
They again repeat that the french judge 'experienced pressure', but what kind of pressure and from who, they could not say.
ISU president told us that he talked to the Judge and she acknowledge that she gave marks based on someone else's interests. "This is enough evidence" says Cinquanta.
He is then asked a question: in this case, should you not question the other 4 judges that favoured the russian pair?
Cinquanta says: "But they had the freedom of choice!"...
...Russian sport authorities think differently. And they do not see the decision as fair.
Says president of Goskomsport Pavel Rozhkov, "Our position is such: what has happened - is wrong. To follow the principles of sport: there should only be one champion. And it turns out our skaters are put on the same level as the canadians ... Imagine, now anyone who loses can decide that he has the right to start a controversy, demand medals..."
... President of Russian Federation of Figure Skating, Valentin Piseev, points to the obvious: "OK, let them not count the vote of the french judge. It turns out that in the free program is a tie. But, there's the short program, than russia cleanly won!" |

i don't have to follow it if i don't break the rules of this forum, which i am not
anyway, just as i predicted, bourne and kraatz finish 4th
sale and pelletier have practically screwed the canadians' chances of ranking high,
and the world figure skating championships will prove that again, and then again...
you don't mess with the judges |

actually that isnt true. now that the ISU is revamping the skating judging, this will never happen again.
and about your article, i didnt read it, but the key word is "russian" media. you do realize how biased media is by definition dont ya?
the russian skaters are satisfied with the decision. the canadian skaters are satisfied with the decision. that, to me, proves it is a fair decision. |

what isn't true?
BOTH the medias are biased, i'm showing you what they think overseas
russian skaters are not happy, they just look like it
apparently with canadian skaters if their lawyers tell them they must be happy, they will be happy |
