Biggest Surprise: Redden Drops The Gloves...Twice.
Biggest Let Down: The Ducks Punish Wings But, Lose In Shootout.
Biggest Winner: Sens. Out-Played For 2 Periods, Heatley Adds 3 Points.
Biggest Loser: Leafs. Had 3-2 Lead Late In The 3rd and Blew It

Hockey may be "back" but it has lost many fans and nobody wants to watch it. It may be more high scoring but ever since the strike nobody cares as much. Most people wouldn't even be able to tell you who won the Stanley Cup

maybe if espn would show some nhl games.......but most of them you cannot get, i barely got one today on a channel i dont normally watch

Yeah but that's canada. Hockey Gods. Tru Playa is right there are few games but even those espn shows aren't watched because they is something better on espn2

Okay But that's because you probably follow hockey. They completly sprint through the Hockey highlights on SC in the morning. So I dont think that people outside of hockey will get interested in it.

yeah i mean there needs to be certain days you just KNOW theres gonna be hockey games on
like for example, sundays are for the nfl games........tuesdays were for the mlb......thursdays were for the nba.......like if the nhl had like a saturday or one of the weekdays were there would be 2 games on maybe people would keep track and watch it more

Well the NHL does start airing games every Saturday on NBC in January.
The main problem though is the cable network deal they have in place with Comcast. We have the NBA on ESPN and TNT during the week, and we have MLB on ESPN pretty much all week long. The NHL is reduced to games on Versus every Monday and Tuesday, and almost half the nation doesn't even get the channel unless they have digital cable or satellite.
This is a big problem because they need to pick up more of a casual sports audience, which they can do by airing games on cable networks on weekday evenings when most people are at home watching T.V. before the mainstream puplic will spend their Saturday afternoons watching hockey. |
