If there has ever been a HoF kicker in the NFL, Elam is it.

I love this guy. I saw him kick that long FG against the Dolphins this year. That was great. Too bad the Fins marched right down the field to set up Mare for a FG to win.

Yep, Elam's a good kicker. In a profession of flakeouts, guys like Elam and Mare create solidaity at the position.

Mare should be a hall of famer as well when he's done, as far as I am concerned. He had a little trouble getting going this year, but Elam's done that before, too.

I am not sure Mare is a HoFer because he is a kicker than most people outside of Miami don't know too much about. Any other position can get away with being solid at their position, but not kickers. If you aren't the best kicker in the league at any point in your career, you won't make it to Canton.

I am not saying Mare isn't a great kicker, however, 'cause he is

What I am really saying is that when all is said and done, it is my opinion that Mare's stats will be better than Elams.

If Mare is a kicker that people in Miami only know about, then Marino was a quarterback that only people in Miami knew about.

Might be touch since Elam got started a year before he did, but he can make it up. He's got a shot.

What I meant is that Mare is not a household name, like Elam is. And for a kicker, that doesn't fare well for trying to get into the Hall.

You definitely have to give it time with Mare. He has only been around a few years. If he stays as consistent as he has, maybe knock a 60 yarder , he could gain household name status.

Isn't Mare one of the most accurate kickers ever or something?

Vanderjagt is now (according to the article posted in a different thread ). I know John Carney at one point held that honor.
