I just thought this was a solid comment.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=junkbonds&prov=cnnsi&type=lgns

Quote:

Every time you want to like Barry Bonds, he opens his mouth and gives you another reason that makes it hard to. His ramblings at the All-Star Game provided more evidence of his inability to generate any goodwill for himself or his sport. There was his ode to the Negro League Museum in Kansas City, Mo. in which he alluded to "segregation" in baseball because that institution is separate from the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. -- the same Negro League Museum Bonds blew off a couple of years ago when he ignored their invitation to be presented with one of their Legacy Awards. And then there was his promise to "wipe out" Babe Ruth from the record book and baseball history.

Hank Aaron can have his home run record and Willie Mays' 660 home runs give him pause, Bonds said, but Ruth? Bonds figuratively spit on his grave, ignorant of the unparalleled contributions Ruth made to the game. Until Bonds is a two-time 20-game winner and a career .342 hitter and feels any inkling of responsibility to the game beyond increasing his own worth, he should worship Babe Ruth for helping to make baseball both the sport and the national treasure that has allowed him to become so enriched.

There are reasons Bonds was booed at the All-Star Game. There are reasons major league players, in a July 7, 2003 Sports Illustrated survey, voted Bonds as the best player in the game, but declared that they would rather play with Alex Rodriguez. There are reasons companies don't want to be associated with Bonds as they do Rodriguez, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and, back in the day, yes, Babe Ruth. Those reasons come straight from Bonds himself.

I've liked Bonds and I've always tried to support him, but those Babe Ruth comments were garbage.

Thats is exactly what happened to me. I was a big fan of Bonds' and then he started talking about erasing Ruth from history and I've pretty much lost all of my support for him.

As for the quote well that is a good quote and explains alot about Barry Bonds' jackassey type attitude.

I agree with you 100% ohiostatefan. i dont like barry bonds as a person at all, especially after those comments about ruth. but i admire him as a player and there is no question he is one of the greats.

I agree with everything posted so far. It seemed the last few years he had maybe tamed his attitude a little bit, but now I think it will follow him forever. I'm a Hank Aaron fan anyhow, so it's okay with me if he doesn't chase that record, although I don't think the record will outlast A-Rod's career.

Yeah, I've never liked Bonds much. He says some really stupid things. I've also heard of what he does to fans.

A lot of people have bad mouthed bonds b/c he never talks to the media, i am going to suppot his decision to do this b/c the media tends to often mess things up. One example is when they said piazza was not straight. The media needs to back down and stop being so annoying. In response to bonds comments he should not have said that but he is one of the best if not the best.

Bonds may be a good player, but that's not the point of this discussion. The point is that Bond's is a jackass as a person. A lot of people do not respect him because of the way he acts and hitting a few more homers won't erase his * comments that he makes.

I have heard many bad stories about Bonds that have nothing to do with the media.

I read in some magazine (SI, ESPN?) about fans coming to spring training games. Some of the lesser known players were signing and talking to the fans. When Bonds arrived, he said to the crowd of people, "You all need to get lives."

This is why I still think it is a shame that Bonds took McGwire's record, and has a chance at the ultimate mark. The guy is a jerk. Great player: I am still nervous every time he bats against my Padres. But he's a jerk.

Bonds could have been a huge. He could have been as big as Jordan only if he smiled a little bit and did a few endorsments. U can see the way kobe bryant can manipulate the media just by haveing a little bit of charisma. IF bonds was nice and every time the media asked him a dumb question he should have just done the typical pro athlete comment on "taking it one game at a time ". Thats all he had to do was smile and people would have cared that he set the single season homerun mark and is chasing the alltime record. Maybe one day he will wake up and look into the mirror and just say im a jackass and im gonna just be an average good guy from now on
