malone and stockton were the most fitting duo in basketball. no one man owes more to the other's career than those two owe to each other. that's teamwork and a half _________________ "If you are going to argue about statistics, then you BETTER have the statistics right."

Those two were incredible together.
Kobe and Shaq were pretty good together, as well. _________________ www.chiefswarpath.com |

This should be so easy--Jordan and Pippen.
Malone and Stockton were good, really good--but were never able to bring home a championship to solidify how great they were together.
Jordan failed for years until Pippen came along, and then with the help of Phil Jackson they won 6 championships. No duo has ever won 6 championships--so how can Jordan and Pippen not be the greatest duo of all time? _________________ The Greatest of All Time..Well Maybe.. |

Well it takes more than two players to win a championship, but it is hard to walk away from Jordan and Pippen.
In Malone's and Stockton's defense though, they didn't have the supporting cast that Pippen and Jordan had. When Jordan left after '93, the Bulls still got to Game 7 of the second round the next year and were a playoff team again in '95, albeit Jordan returned before the end of the season. If either Stockton or Malone left the other to fend for himself, I don't think they'd even be a playoff team. I mean the two best players I can think of that played with them were Jeff Hornacek and Greg Ostertag.
It's a toss-up, though. Magic and Kareem gotta be up there too as well as Kareem and Oscar Robertson. |

Jordan and Pippen didn't have much talent surrounding them. Dennis Rodman is it, rebounds and defense, but other than that you had John Paxton,Steve Kerr,Bill Winnington(sp),Horrace Grant,Ron Harper,Tony Kukoc,Luc Longley,Bill Cartwright, etc. all of which who never did anything after leaving Chicago.
Jordan made people around him better. period. _________________ The Greatest of All Time..Well Maybe.. |

Horace Grant also had a nice career in Orlando and Bill Cartwright excelled with the Knicks before joining the Bulls. Most of the others never did anything after leaving Chicago because they were all in the twilight of their careers. Pippen himself wasn't all that special after leaving the Bulls either. I'm not saying it's not an argument but I'll take those guys over the guys Malone and Stockton played with. At least the guys you mentioned are recognizable names. Besides the guys I mentioned, how many other guys from those Jazz teams will people even be able to name in 5 years? Howard Eisley?
I'm not saying that Malone and Stockton were better. The way I look at it is Jordan is the best player of the four, with Malone and Stockton being second and third, and then Pippen fourth. So from a pure talent standpoint, as two duos it kind of evens out but at the same time you might be able to take Jordan and Pippen because of Jordan alone. |
