Duke-North Carolina basketball is the best rivalry in college sports, but what is the best football rivalry? I know Michigan-Ohio State is big, as well as Florida State-Miami, but I'm a sooner fan and have been to a couple of Oklahoma-Texas games, the environment is incredible. For me, there's nothing like it and it dates back to the mid 20th century unlike many other big rivalries (i mean where the two teams are two of the best in the country year in and year out). So what is the best rivalry for everyone else?

OSU-Mich is probably one of the better rivalries, even if I don't have a place to root (I don't like either of em very much), and I root for Texas even if they never end up beating Oklahoma anyway, but my favorite rivalry (maybe not the best) is the one replayed every year at the World's Largest Cocktail Party. Now that Florida is back on its way up, and Georgia lost some key players, this game is healthier than ever. I love both teams and it's just a great SEC rivalry game which I've heard has a very fun atmosphere as well.

I'd say the best rivalry in college sports is Texas vs. Texas A&M. Texas vs. OU has been amazing in the past 5 years, but overall it has nothing on UT-A&M. I'm sure Michigan vs. OSU and Florida vs. Florida St are awesome too, but as far as the greatest of all time I still have to go with Tx vs. A&M b/c I've seen it. It doesn't matter if each team is 0-10 going into the game the stadium will be full. For 19 years until I moved to go to college I lived about a mile from the highway between Austin & Bryan-College Station. Traffic before a UT-A&M game is ridiculous. Every year you either see lines of cars with UT stickers going to College Station or cars with A&M stickers headed to Austin. It's pretty much the same thing on I-35 when UT plays Oklahoma, but growing up I never missed a UT-A&M game. It's always each team's last game and when I was younger it was usually always the winner of that game would win the Southwest Conference. It's just an amazing rivalry that I can't even describe. Both schools have so much tradition, and it's a game that I will never miss seeing no matter where I end up after college.

I would have to go with Ohio State- MIchigan. Since my favorite college team is Notre Dame I really don't have a lot of personal experiences with college rivalries.

You do make a great point about Texas-A&M mustbesix. There's a great tradition there, but that rivalry has been forgotten in the past few years on account of A&M's poor play in recent years. But Texas A&M is certainly a team on its way up, and this year's contest could be one for the ages, with heavily lauded Vince Young taking on Reggie McNeal's Aggies. I hear that McNeal is actually a better QB than Young but hasn't got the attention that Young has because his team isn't constantly in the spotlight like the Longhorns.

Duke NC is good. Only when Duke wins though. Miami and FSU has been great lately. But Texas-OK is the best.

Notre Dame has a giant number of rivals, about half its matches are played against rivals o.0

Notre Dame's rivalries with Michigan and USC are pretty good. At least, when ND is playing well, it's a good matchup.
