From ESPN:

Quote:
At least seven groups submitted opening bids and a Chicago real-estate firm made an offer to buy Wrigley Field separately, according to the Chicago Tribune.

In a conflicting report, the Chicago Sun Times said 10 groups submitted bids to buy the Cubs and more than 20 made made bids on just Wrigley Field. ...

The list reportedly includes a group headed by John Canning, chairman of private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners LLC; Internet billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban; the family of online brokerage Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts; Don Levin, Chicago businessman and owner of the Chicago Wolves minor league hockey franchise; Jim Anixter, president of A-Z Industries Inc. in Northbrook who has partnered with Chicago attorney Thomas Mandler and Sports Properties Acquisition Corp., a shell company with $215 million looking to buy a sports property.

Being a cubs fan, I hope Mark Cuban gets the cubs and wrigley. If he does look for them to become the yankees in payroll but still have the farm talent.

Who would have thought years ago that it would come down to this!?

I don't really understand, what's so bad about the situation? I don't know how much changes really if they get a new ownership.

I don't see the problem, either. If you don't want your car anymore, you sell it or trade it to get a new one, or just sell it for the cash. Whether you like it or not, the Cubs franchise is property, and it can be bought and sold.

Okay and when you get somebody in there like sam zell, who doesnt want to spend any money. The team isnt pushed over the limit. The new ownership will be brought in and just want to maximize profits and not give a damn whos on the team just give them a $90 million payroll.

Hendry needed okay to go after sabathia, why didnt he? Zell said no cause they didnt want to sign and trade.

The Indians refused to give the Yankees a negotiating window with Sabathia, so I doubt they would give him one with the Cubs.

This may sound crappy, but baseball is a business, and the goal of a business is to make money. In the end, as we have all seen in the past, it doesn't matter what the Cubs organization puts on the field; they stands still fill up.
