| Should the NHL have 86 regular season games? Each team would play each conference opponent 4 times and each interconference opponent 2 times. Also, should the league do away with divisions so that the standings are determined only on conference points? |

| I wouldn't get rid of the division set up, but it's not a bad idea. I think another good idea would be to have an 84 game schedule where each team plays every team in its division 6 times as opposed to 8 (24 games), every other team in its conference 3 times (30 games), and every team in the other conference twice (30 games). |

I like his idea. I mean for a short term next year gradually adding games is not a bad idea and work their way up to 86. Why? Because the increase number of points, you already have people getting an average of over 1 point per game, and then adding a couple of games will completely throw off records. Not saying that records shouldn't be broken, but that they shouldn't be broken over a regular season like Sidney Crosby is having, and such.
Plus i think that we should keep divisions because taking that away will probably change (I am talking drastic changes) how and what teams will make the playoffs. You might even take out the underdog teams like the Oliers*
*Just using them as an example from last year. |

they need to have the seeding like the way the nba has it.............coz i think its a good way to honor the division winners and whoever has the 2nd best record in their division _________________ NHL = Nashville Predators

Ah, maybe? but then hockey would be too much like basketball.
Who knows? It might work. _________________ NHL- Washington Capitals/ Alexander Ovechkin

Thing is in hockey the disparity between the teams at the top of the conference standings and at the bottom of the playoff bracket isn't as big as in the NBA. Last year we saw the Oilers get all the way into the Stanley Cup Finals as a #8 seed. In '03 the Ducks made it to the Finals as the #7 seed in the West and in '99 the Sabres were #6 or #7 before losing to the Stars in the Cup Finals.
Also, what the NBA was trying to do was eliminate the possibility of the conference's two best teams meeting early in the playoffs like what happened last year when the Spurs and Mavs met in the second round. That problem is already nonexsistent in the NHL because the teams are reseeded after each round. |

Shamedog18, nice thinking, nice job, and i want to comment that... NHL can't be like the NBA because then it wouldn't be cool, and for the reasons stated above. By the way those were amazing yet simple examples. I was thinking about the Oilers.
But the thing about those examples are: the teams that made it that far coming from the bottom of the ranks, being the underdog, but the got no where, they did not win, in 5 years, no one will care who played but only who won. _________________ NHL- Washington Capitals/ Alexander Ovechkin
