Well the first of 7 rankings are out
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/abcsports/BCSStandings
Top 5 are:
1 USC
2 Miami
3 Oklahoma
4 Auburn
5. Florida St.
For an explanation go here
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlistings/abcStory?page=bcsexplanation
Now this is how I would do it.
Take the 11 conference winner and 5 at large teams and place them in a 16 team playoff. I would use the BCS ranking in 2 ways
1) for the ranking
2.) to find out the 5 at large teams.
Just because you are the winner of a conference does not mean you are ranked in the top 11. You could be ranked 16th. So here is mine 16 assuming the conference leaders win their respected conference.
* = confernce winner or leader
1) USC* vs 16)North Texas*
2) Miami* vs 15)Toledo*
3) Oklahoma* vs 14) UAB*
4) Auburn* vs 13) West Virgina*
5) Florida St. vs 12) Boise st*
6) Wisconsin* vs 11) Texas
7) Utah* vs 10) Georgia
8 ) Cal Vs 9) Tennessee _________________ Chris

That could work but with 16 teams, it will stretch out the season too far.
Here's my idea: You use the BCS, take the top eight teams in the rankings putting them into a playoff. Example:
1) USC vs 8 ) Cal
2) Miami vs 7) Utah
3) Oklahoma vs 6) Wisconsin
4) Auburn vs 5) Florida St _________________ Indians: 15-19

it would only stech out the seaon by today's college football calendar by 4 days. The championship game now is Tuesday Jan 4th. In my senerio it would be the weekend of Jan 8th. _________________ Chris

I've spent hours on this issue. Wrote a sequence of articles on it and why I think they should throw the BCS (Bull crap standings) out the window. I said every conference winner should get to go to a playoff. That makes what? 11 teams? Then add 5 more teams. But make brackets with 4 teams ranked 1 through 4 in each. Sure...there are going to be teams better than North Texas that are left out of the playoffs....but I think it would be a lot of fun watching a team from a non-BCS conference go deep in the playoffs. 4 weeks may seem like a long time but I don't think that it's too long. None of these bowls mean anything. And a playoff would solve everything...just not the money to satisfy the NCAA. So basically my method is the same as ctfwest's expect I would make brackets of 4 teams. _________________ MLB - St. Louis Cardinals: 2004 National League Champs

A playoff will never happen. Money talks. Plus the teams would have to play too many games, no program wants that. Too much risk of injury. The players wouldn't really want to play either, because a lot of these guys want to go to the NFL, and they don't want to risk getting hurt playing extra games in college which could amount to nothing to them. _________________ They call me tha boat, cause I rock..
